ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State has being selected by the United State Agency of International Development (USAID) for its pilot scheme on USAID E–Wash programme for the State Urban Water Board.
The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Sir Fidelis Okenmor Tilije who disclosed this at USAID E–Wash Agenda for the SIP/Action Plans Presentation Workshop held in Benizia Hotel, Asaba said that only six states in Nigeria were selected for the scheme.
Sir Tilije noted that E-wash is part of United States Government‘s efforts in Nigeria to address gap in urban wash services, pointing out that USAID E–Wash would support the improvement of urban water delivery in Nigeria.
While saying that the state government is doing a lot in the area of water development, the Commissioner maintained that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration had put in place water sanitation policy that ensure effective and safe water delivery to Deltans
He therefore, enjoined the participants to take the workshop seriously and apply the knowledge acquired while carrying out their jobs, “The workshop is geared towards ensuring that the capacity of the staff of Urban Water Board and Ministry of Water Resources were of standard”, he added.
Speaking, the General Manager, Urban Water Board, Engr Nsosa Okoh stated that the workshop would evaluate an E-Wash programme, base line following action plan for Urban Water Board.
He pointed out that the objective of E-Wash include among other things to create professionally managed and commercially oriented States Water Boards (SWBs), as well as improve the financial and operational viability policy.
