Uviejitobor Pledges to Promote Sustainable Development in Delta State’s Oil Sector

ASABA/Nigeria: Newly appointed Commissioner for Oil and Gas in Delta State, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor, has pledged to promote sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the state’s oil and gas sector.

Speaking after his swearing-in ceremony, alongside five other commissioners by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Uviejitobor emphasized his commitment to collaborating with key stakeholders to mitigate the environmental impact of oil exploration and exploitation.

“Oil remains the cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, and the Delta State government is determined to maintain its leading position in the industry,” Uviejitobor stated. He highlighted the importance of fostering a peaceful environment and harmonious relationships among stakeholders to achieve increased production and its associated benefits.

The Commissioner reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing cooperation between oil and gas companies and their host communities, aiming to reduce conflicts and foster mutual benefits. “A sustainable, peaceful environment and good synergy among stakeholders are essential ingredients for success,” he noted.

Uviejitobor, a two-term member of the Delta State Assembly and former Special Adviser to the Governor on Government Affairs, stressed the necessity of implementing policies that promote local content and capacity building in the industry. He assured that the Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas, under his leadership, would continue efforts in line with Governor Oborevwori’s reform agenda.

“The government will persist in engaging with host communities and oil firms to ensure that Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) are effectively implemented for peaceful coexistence,” Uviejitobor affirmed. He emphasized his familiarity with the hydrocarbon sector, promising to render selfless service to the state.

Expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the appointment, Uviejitobor pledged to contribute significantly to the administration’s MORE Agenda. He called for the support of all stakeholders, including key players in the oil and gas industry and the oil-bearing communities in Delta State.

“I appeal for the support of every stakeholder to drive sustainable development in our oil and gas sector,” he concluded.
