ASABA/Nigeria: Director of vehicle Inspection in the Delta State Ministry of Transport, Engr. Ezonebi Oyakemegbegha, has charged officers to be friendly with motorists in the discharge of their duties.
Engr. Oyakemegbegha gave the charge in an enlarged meeting with zonal heads of out stations and other personnel with regard to observance of all Covid-19 protocols in the conference hall of the ministry in Asaba, the state capital.
The officers during the meeting were admonished to be diligent in their official duties, and to operate within the law, adding that put their anger in check, in order to avoid physical combats with motorists under provocations.
He said that he was aware of reports of physical, emotional, psychological and sometimes verbal attacks they received from traffic offenders, adding that appropriate traffic fines should be given to offenders, but not as a punitive measure.
He stressed that indiscriminate charges of fines should stop, just as he enjoined the officers to shun all form of vices that could bring the ministry and the state government to disrepute.
He commended the officers for their dedication in the face of numerous challenges on the road and stressed the importance of personal safety on the job in view of the high risks from reckless motorists.
The director charged the officers to always observe all Covid-19 protocols and take the Covid-19 Jabs (vaccine) when they were called upon to do so.
Engr. Akpojotor Emmanuel, who is in charge of the Koko outstation, responded on behalf of others during the interactive session.
He said that they were faced with the challenges of lack of operational vehicles, office furniture and shortage of personnel, among others.
