VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRL CHILD: DTHA to Continue Partnership With the NHRC

ASABA: As part of the United Nation’s Annual 16 Days Advocacy to eliminate Violence Against Women, the members of the Nigerian Human Right Commission, NHRC, on Thursday, November 26, 2020, visited the Delta State House of Assembly, to solicits for more cooperation from the Assembly on more legislation against practices which violate the rights of women and the Girl Child

Receiving the members of the NHRC, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor, promised to continue to partner with the commission to legislate on laws that will protect the rights of the women, and girl child.

The visit was part of the commission’s celebration of the International Day on Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, which is usually marked every year, from the 25 of November, to the 10th day of December, with talks, symposiums and workshops to enlighten the world on the need to allow the women and girls the right to live.

He stated that the Assembly is much aware of the continuous violation of the Woman, and Girl Child, and they on their part had domesticated laws to protect them against any form of abuse or violation.

“We commend your efforts to continue the advocacy to eliminate violence against women, and Girl Child. We know all your efforts to see that this is achieved, especially with more advocacy, and enlightenment with this 16 days of advocacy.”

Earlier, the state Director of the National Human Right Commission, NHRC, Barr. Nicholas Osadolor, has presented the statement of the Executive Secretary of the commission, Mr. Tony Ojukwu, Esq   for the 2020 activities to the Deputy Speaker.

The Deputy Speaker was supported during the visit, by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Lynda Ocholor.
