ASABA/Nigeria: The State Working Committee (SWC) has cleared all three aspirants contesting for the chairmanship position of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel to participate in the election scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026, in line with directives from the National Secretariat.
The decision followed a meeting of the SWC held on March 14, 2026, to review the eligibility and qualifications of the aspirants, acting in compliance with a directive conveyed in a letter from the National Secretariat dated March 12, 2026.
According to the committee, after extensive deliberations, all three aspirants were found eligible to contest the election. The SWC also affirmed that all 32 members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel are qualified to vote during the election.
The committee explained that no petitions relating to the chairmanship aspirants were entertained during the meeting, noting that issues concerning membership of the chapel had already been conclusively addressed by the National Secretariat.
In a statement jointly signed by the Vice Chairman of the SWC, Comrade Felix Ekwu; Acting Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior; Treasurer, Comrade Caroline Ubini; Auditor, Comrade Celestine Afokobah; and Ex-Officio member, Comrade Christian Eze, the committee dissociated itself from any correspondence issued contrary to its collective position.
The SWC specifically disowned a separate communication purportedly issued on the election and signed solely by the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, stating that such correspondence did not represent the collective decision of the committee.
The committee further passed a vote of no confidence on the State Chairman, accusing him of persistent disregard for the authority and resolutions of the SWC, as well as actions it described as high-handed and constituting an abuse of office.
While reaffirming its alignment with the directive of the National Secretariat regarding the conduct of the election, the SWC urged all members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel to conduct themselves peacefully, orderly and professionally throughout the electoral process.
