Fire Incident at Warri Refinary, Nigeria

The Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) in Warri, on Tuesday 22 of October caught fire. Report reaching Ndokwa Reporters says the incident occurred when a 4 inches pipe at the Reforming Unit of the plant gave way do to pressure. The reforming Unit is one of the units that must be on for the refining process to be completed.

According to our source, the fire was on for two hours. When asked of the fire service of the company, he replied that they did not respond early enough and if not for the gallant act of the workers it would had been worse. However, a sister company, the Nigerian Gas Company who responded could not get to the company do to blockage at the Shaguolo area of the road which was blocked by tankers awaiting to load petroleum products.

The incident left few injured as the water hose they were using to put off the fire gave way, leading to one of the workers sustaining knee injury.

Meanwhile, a source at the Planning Department says the company is determine to bring back the plant to operation soon, by working round the clock to fix the burnt section.
