WARRI/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Godwin Toritseju Ebosa, has launched a 1-day internet skills acquisition training for Delta youths.
The skill acquisition training was held on Thursday 16, at the popular SNAPS hall, Federal Government College, Warri, headquarters of Warri south local government area of Delta state.
Mr. Ekpoko Ukalami, Special Assistant to Hon. Ebosa, declared the training open, saying the essence of the training is to equip the youths with requisite skills that will build their capacity on digital marketing and other business activities using internet facilities as the driver.
He said, “this Google Digital Skill for Africa Training is aimed at exposing the youths to numerous business opportunities available on the internet in the hope that at the end of the training, the participants will be able to sharpen their skills and make use of the abundant opportunities on the internet to create an online driven business initiative.”
The training, which was supported by Google had over 500 persons, mostly youths as participants. The trainer, Mr. Destiny Takon, advised the youths to take the training serious, noting that the world is undergoing digital revolution at a great speed. He charged the youths to develop their talents and take advantage of the numerous business opportunities on the internet to eke a living in the society.
Continuing, Takon told the participants that internet opens the gate to global digital marketing, stating that every business at the global space has gone digital.
The training covered critical areas such as: how to commercialise talents and skills using the internet resource; how to own and manage a website profitably; how to create content on YouTube and earn money; understanding Google Applications, Digital Marketing/ Online marketing, and the use of other internet powered applications.
Speaking at the end of the training, the participants thanked Hon. Godwin Ebosa for the initiative, describing it as a welcome development most needed to equip the teeming youths with the right skills to pursue a career in an internet driven economy.
Iwayomo Bukola, a female participant said, “the training is quite commendable as it exposed us to many opportunities the internet offers and we shall utilize the knowledge gained at the training to start an internet powered business and then earn a living.
Similarly, Aghogho Sideso, a male participant and an IT specialist, applauded Hon. Ebosa for the good idea, saying “it is a good step to engaging the youths in the state in a productive vocation. Continuing, he said ‘the training affords us the opportunity to leverage the business opportunities available on the internet and create a business hub within a short time.” He called on other politicians and leaders in the Delta state to emulate Hon. Godwin Ebosa by building capacity in the youths. Saying “it will go a long way to reducing poverty and unemployment among the youths in Delta state.
The participants received “Certificates of Participation” at the end of the training.
