LAGOS/Nigeria: The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) has thrown its weight behind Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, endorsing him as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced by AWAMN President, Olugbenga Adebola, during a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, where he said the decision followed a careful assessment of Hamzat’s record in public service and governance.

Adebola explained that the association’s position aligns with the broader political direction of its Grand Patron, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that Hamzat represents continuity of leadership and administrative competence in the state.

He described the deputy governor as a tested technocrat with extensive experience across key government portfolios, adding that his performance in previous roles and current office demonstrates readiness for higher responsibility.

“There is no other individual with the capacity, capability, tenacity and experience required to lead Lagos State at this critical time,” Adebola said.

The AWAMN president further stated that Hamzat’s commitment to governance and public service has positioned him as a dependable choice for stakeholders seeking stability and sustained development in Lagos.

He called on professional bodies, civil society groups and political stakeholders to rally behind the deputy governor, expressing confidence that his leadership would consolidate existing gains in the state.

Adebola added that the association remains committed to supporting leadership that prioritises efficient service delivery and environmental sustainability.

The endorsement was concluded with a public show of support, as members adopted the campaign tag, #AWAMNStandsWithObafemiHamzat, signalling their backing ahead of the 2027 race.
