LAGOS/Nigeria: In an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria, Mr. Gregory Ohiaeri, Managing Director of “Waste to Table Limited,” a leading waste conversion outfit, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all State Governors to implement policies that foster local production of feed. Ohiaeri emphasized that such measures would reduce farming costs, boost yields, and ultimately fortify food security across the nation.
Ohiaeri, known for his expertise in turning organic waste into valuable resources, highlighted the potential of converting organic waste into fertilizers, animal feed, and methane gas for power generation. With a focus on promoting sustainable practices, Ohiaeri underscored the role of proper waste management in creating jobs and supporting agriculture.
Expressing concern over the rising cost of feed impacting small-scale farmers, Ohiaeri urged swift action from authorities to address the issue. He noted the significant increase in poultry feed costs and stressed the need for strategic policies to keep smallholder farmers in business and ensure affordable food prices.
During the interview, Ohiaeri shared insights into the high-quality animal feed and fertilizers produced at the Waste to Table organic waste conversion plant in ODOGUNYAN, IKORODU, Lagos. Lab tests revealed increased protein percentages, and consumers preferred products from animals fed with their organic feeds.
As a waste management advocate with plans to franchise Waste to Table nationwide, Ohiaeri emphasized the importance of government support. He outlined the expansion strategy, with Lagos State as the initial hub and plans to establish facilities in Ogun State by 2024, and hopeful prospects for Abia State this year.
Ohiaeri also discussed the environmental impact of methane gas emissions and showcased how the Waste to Table facility harnessed methane for electricity generation, mitigating climate change effects. He called for government policies on waste collection and segregation, stressing the need for accessible land for the waste conversion process.
With a vision for a circular economy, green job creation, pollution reduction, and societal resilience, Waste to Table aims to revolutionize waste management while supporting agriculture and power generation.
