ASABA/Nigeria: Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State Council, Chief Ifeanyi Obi has said the union did not record any accident during the yuletide.
Speaking in Asaba, Delta State, Chief Obi disclosed that for more than three years, members of the Union have not recorded any accident during the yuletide season attributing it to God and safety-consciousness of members of the union.
“We are happy that during the Christmas celebration, no member of our Union was involved in any accident, we thank God that we have experienced this for more than three years, our drivers are more cautious, they also ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys,” he said, adding, “our Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has also, helped by fixing dangerous parts of the roads which made the movements smooth.”
On the expectations for the year, Chief Obi said, “we have already started on a positive note, those who were fighting our members with weapons in the name of collecting haulage revenue have been removed by the Governor, we will remain peaceful, law abiding and support Governor Okowa’s administration.”
“We will continue to call on commuters to make use of the motor parks and avoid boarding vehicles along the road, but, utilise the various motor parks for their own safety, we will continue to collaborate with sister unions to ensure that the best is achieved for our union and our state,” Chief Obi said.
