We have Come a Long Way, Says Ochor at Delta 27 Anniversary

OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Delta state have been described as a state that had gone through many trials and had come out of it stronger since its creation 27 years ago.

Commenting on the 2018, anniversary celebration of the state, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, stated that the development of the state had been steady, attributing it to the collective will of the people, who understands the idea of communal lives.

He congratulated the various stakeholders in the state, especially the various ethnic make up for keeping the faith, and peace as it is a collective efforts of both the different stakeholders, who had agreed to leave as one.

“We have to congratulate ourselves for keeping faith with one and other. Knowing that the state is made up of different people, religion and political interests. We have to celebrate that oneness.” He said.

Hon Ochor used the occasion to also remind Deltans that the beginning of the current democracy was tough for the state, and the state was faced with crises within the southern part, which for a while distracted development in the state.

“At the beginning of this democracy, the state came under fire from ethnic agitations from the southern part of the state. The economy was halted, these made many companies to relocate, and those that cannot relocate closed shops. With that scenario, we have to start building the halted development.”

“Presently the government for the past few years, especially under this government, had tried to build a New Delta, especially among the youths, this is to put their minds off vices. This should be encouraged by all people of goodwill.”

Hon Ochor, further stated that the development already achieved need to be sustained, by encouraging all efforts of the government to bring the best form of development to the state, as can be seen with the massive flood control measure being embarked by the Okowa administration in both Asaba and Warri.

“We have to sustain our achievements, and do more to develop our state. The current flood control in the state capital and Warri is one of such developments. The completion of the Stephen Keshi Stadium and hosting Africa within a very short notice is an achievement. The negotiation and sustaining peace is an achievement.” He stated.
