The Chairman of Ndokwa west local government area, Hon. Emmanuel Okwaji has demonstrated his passion to deliver dividends of democracy to his local government citizenry. In his speech delivered on the occasion marking the first graduation ceremony, launching of Ndokwa west local government website and presentation ceremony of Ndokwa west local government subsidy-reinvestment and empowerment programme (SURE-P).The website will serve as a door through which the world will meet our people and a window to see our government in action and the abundant investment opportunities for industries, he said.
He opted for permission to use this occasion to articulate packaged christened SURE-P as a palliative measure designed by the federal government to transfer part of the wealth saved from the partial removal of fuel subsidy. The chairman noted that about 1.8million employable individuals enter the nation’s labour market annually, and with youth employment put at unacceptable figure of about 37%.He stated that we need concerted efforts by both public and private sector operators to face the challenges. The Chairman noted that SURE-P is aimed at the empowerment of citizens through job creation and relevant infrastructural development.

Hon. Okwaji have articulated a mission since the inception of his administration to designed for a focused  and relentless pursuit of Delta state government’s  well thought-out 3 point development blueprint and Delta beyond oil vision to restore faith of our people in the local government system. Through the council’s first share of the SURE-P, the chairman re-engineered the existing skill acquisition centres called Ndokwa local government remedial and vocational institute. This is to guide citizens, especially women, and youths towards mass literacy, value re-orientation and finding trades for themselves in tandem with the demands of the business community in the environment and galvanizing the socio-economic lives of the people towards sustainable prosperity.

The chairman has also completed the construction of two new blocks of six classrooms in the remedial and vocational institute through the SURE-P fund. The remedial institute have a total number of 104 grandaunts who had ideas of the skills they learnt while the other set of 50 persons who had no idea of any skill they are learning will graduate in due course. The chairman stated that 10million naira would be disbursed to 200 persons at 50,000 each to enable them start up small businesses of their own. He advised that the beneficiaries should make good use of the starter packs given to them because this kind gesture hardly comes ones way the second time. “We hope that through continuous training, the institute will be producing successive army of entrepreneurs who will drive the local economy. Others who did not benefit in this phase of SURE-P should be patient as the local government is poised to channel the energies of youths to a more meaningful and productive ventures and curb societal ills necessitated by idleness and will not rest until the programme touches the door step of every home in the local government area. The chairman mentioned that DESOPADEC have concluded arrangements to partner with Ndokwa west local government remedial institute to train youths across Ndokwa ethnic nationality. He call on Deltans to continue to support the programmes of Dr.E.E.Uduaghan administration.
