ASABA/Nigeria: In a resolute declaration, the Delta State government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding environmental sanitation laws across all twenty-five local government areas of the state. This declaration, aimed at fostering a clean environment and promoting a healthy lifestyle, was articulated by Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, Chairman of the Task Force on Environment, during an appearance on Orientation Panorama, the flagship program of Voice of Delta 97.7 FM.
Highlighting Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori’s prioritization of a clean environment for the well-being and productivity of Deltans, Asiuwhu emphasized the deployment of a robust task force comprising 315 Environmental Marshalls, security personnel, and vigilante groups. He underscored the task force’s mandate to ensure compliance through measures including arrest, prosecution, and imposition of fines.
Asserting that no individual or entity would be exempt from adherence to environmental regulations, Asiuwhu warned of stringent enforcement actions, including the sealing of non-compliant premises. He further cautioned against indiscriminate waste disposal, emphasizing the deployment of local vigilantes to apprehend violators.
“The mandate given to the task force on environment is to keep Delta State clean,” stated Asiuwhu, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to enforcing existing laws and holding violators accountable.
Furthermore, Asiuwhu clarified the proper channels for remitting fines, stressing that all payments must be directed to the government treasury under official supervision, with no tolerance for unauthorized transactions.
Concluding with an appeal for public cooperation in maintaining a clean environment, Asiuwhu emphasized the collective responsibility of residents and landlords in achieving this goal.
