We’re Still Searching For Cause Of Strange Ailment- College Management

BOJI BOJI/Nigeria: The Director of Catholic Schools, Issele-Uku Diocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Banyi, said the school authority is digging deep to assert the cause of the epidemic in Mary Mount College ,Boji Boji Owa in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Rev. Banyi made this known during the Parents Teachers Association meeting held at the school premises, noting that a series of tests had been carried out on the affected students and all have proven negative.

According to him the state government and other relevant authorities have been with us since the outbreak of a strange ailment and we are relaxed in our bid to unravel the cause of the illness.

Banyi reiterated that all the affected students have been discharged and are doing well, except for one child who died, noting that she died under the care of her parents.

While appreciating parents for their show of love and concern for school management, he assured them that Marymount College will always remain the College that they have been proud of.

Continuing, he appealed to the state government to quickly come to their aid by looking into the matter of the gas plant situated close to the school, saying that the gas plant is dangerous to the health of the children.

On his part, the Chairman P.T.A, Comr. Ndidi Okoh, in strong terms condemned the sitting of a gas plant close to the school, disclosing that they officially wrote to the appropriate authorities and that only the Ministry of Environment responded, however yet to carry out any action.

He maintained that the relocation of the gas plant will be the best option at the moment.

The chairman appealed to parents to stay calm and not to lose their trust in the school, saying that they are doing their best to ensure that everything is rectified.

Comr. Okoh, urged the government to intervene and take a stand that will favour the children.

Also speaking the P.T.A. Internal Auditor, Rotarian Ayemwenre Peters, who spoke out of compassion for the children, condemned the situation of gas plants within residential areas, saying that the human system was usually relaxed and weak when people retired to their beds and could easily contract any airborne disease.
