The Executive Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government of Delta State, Barr. (Mrs.) Benedicta Osakunih-Izuegbu has given reasons why the council celebrated its 19th year of creation, saying “This is the time for all Ukwuani people to join hands and develop their fatherland.
Barr. Osakunih-Izuegbu, while speaking on the first day of the anniversary celebration said the occasion was partly meant to celebrate those who in one way or the other contributed and fought for the creation of the local government and more importantly those who have made meaningful contributions to its growth and development.
“No doubt, many sons and daughters of Ukwuani have made meaningful contributions, translating to what the local government is today, but our desire is to recognize them and make them know that we greatly appreciate them for their good works and contributions which have taken the local government thus far”, she said.
She, therefore, expressed gratitude to them for their support and urged them to continue in their good works.
“These are trying times financially because the finances are not really there, but we felt we should show appreciation to those who are Ukwuani indigenes and have continued to contribute to the development of Ukwuani nation. We may not be the best local government in Delta State but certainly not the worse,” she added.
While urging Ukwuani indigenes to always cultivate the culture of growth and development of the area, the chairman advised that “It is me and you that can take Ukwuani to where it should be and no other person can do it for us. Therefore, we must put aside the pull down syndrome and think development in other to build our fatherland because we have nowhere else that we can call our own. Ukwuani is our local government and all hands must be on deck to develop it not only for ourselves but for generations yet unborn,” she admonished.
The first day of the anniversary which was marked by lectures was chaired by Professor (Emeritus) Steve Okecha.
The first of the lectures, titled “Leaping Forward Towards Growth and development was delivered by a renowned Economist, Banker and University Lecturer, Mr. Godwin Ossai, while the second, titled “Security challenges in the Local Government Area: The way forward was delivered by Chief Onyesom Isaac.
