Wife of Anambra State Governor Advocates Walking and Cycling to Combat Vehicular Air Pollution and Promote Healthy Lifestyle

AWKA/Nigeria: In a bid to address the pressing issue of vehicular air pollution and foster healthier living, Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, has called on Nigerians to embrace walking and cycling as alternative modes of transport. During a media chat held on Tuesday in Awka, she passionately promoted her initiative, known as the “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Campaign.”

Highlighting the urgent need for action, Soludo stressed that vehicular pollution stood as a major contributor to air pollution and subsequent climate change in society. She expressed her concern over the hazardous effects of vehicle emissions on human health and the environment.

According to Soludo, adopting cycling as a clean mode of transport could significantly reduce carbon emissions and overall exposure to pollutants, offering numerous fitness benefits along the way. She advocated for a shift in mentality, encouraging individuals to consider walking shorter distances instead of always relying on cars.

At the core of the “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Campaign” lies a holistic approach aimed at promoting good nutrition, environmental cleanliness, basic life skills, and strong moral values within society. Soludo has taken her campaign to primary and secondary schools, aiming to instill the culture of healthy living in children from a young age.

Having begun her advocacy for healthy living a decade ago, Soludo has been actively delivering talks on the importance of a balanced diet with a focus on local foods. She believes that getting children addicted to healthy eating habits and physical exercise is crucial for their overall well-being, steering them away from excessive phone usage and social media.

Encouraging Nigerians to reduce their reliance on processed foods, Soludo emphasized the significance of embracing backyard farming and consuming natural foods. According to her, local foods are not only readily available and affordable but also possess vital energy-giving and medicinal properties.

In a collaborative effort to spread this vital message beyond Anambra State, Soludo has partnered with religious and community leaders. With their support, she hopes to encourage more Nigerians to prioritize healthy eating, increase fiber intake, and engage in at least 30 minutes of daily exercise. Through these collective efforts, Soludo envisions a healthier and more prosperous homeland for all.
