Winnie Mandela: A Loss to the Freedom Movement – CDHR

ABUJA/Nigeria: Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) morns the unfortunate death of Winnie Mandela who passed on in South Africa on Monday at 81 years old. CDHR commiserates with the legendary Mandela family, the people of South Africa and the entire Freedom Movement across the world.

CDHR extols the late Winnie Mandela as an icon of fundamental freedom; describes her passing as a loss to the Freedom Movement. Winnie stood stoutly in the struggle against oppression, despite the arrests, detention, intimidation and harassment, particularly the oppressive tendencies of the apartheid regime in South Africa. She upheld the fight to liberate the black majority from the stronghold of the white minority rule in South Africa. She was a voice for the oppressed and a strong support to her late husband, Nelson Mandela.

CDHR continues to uphold the virtues of justice, equity, equality, democracy and good governance for the promotion of human rights, civil liberties and fundamental freedom.

Adieu Winnie! Rest in peace!
