Women Called to Acquire Self Development

EFFURUN/Nigeria: Women marginalization had been said to  had been unconsciously embedded in social cultural processes, greatly perpetuated by society’s institutions such as schools, workplaces, political parties, health, media and religious institutions, including the homes.

This was the view of Dr. Mrs Rachael Missan Ruppee who spoke on “Gender Perspective to Leadership” at the Centre LSD Leadership school, Effurun, recently, as she attributed that Gender is the social attributes learned or acquired during socialization by members of a given community.
Dr. Ruppee affirmed that women marginalization begins in micro-level (home/family) and unconsciously embedded in social-cultural process, saying that it is perpetuated by society’s institutions such as schools, workplaces, political parties, health, media and religious institutions.
She stressed that some of the consequences of feminine construct are economic dependence on men, low self esteem, shout out of decision making, prone to violence etc, while consequences of some masculine construct are increased vulnerability to infection, irresponsible sexual behaviour, men saturate the leadership space.
She urged women to develop themselves in order for them to fit in any position, even as she maintained that women should be given equal opportunity as their male counterpart to thrive in various capacities in order to contribute their quota to the development of the society.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Stephen Osaware, an IT expert called on Leaders to embrace the tools of Information Communication Technology, ICT, to solve problems.
Mr. Osaware described Leadership and ICT as the ability to produce solution to problems, as well as providing credible innovation and performance, adding that the combination of both breaks one out of the crowd of compromise, rebels against the norm, situations, comfort and conveniences.
He maintained that globalisation, GDP growth, job creation, payment process and faster work process are things leaders can benefits from ICT, even as he affirmed that investing in core area of ICT, investing in people, focus, planning and making it work are the five essential steps to be an ICT leader.
