Works Commissioner Pays Unscheduled Visit to Monitor Progress of Ughelli-Asaba Dualization Road Project

UGHELLI/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Works, Urban and Highways, Comrade Reuben Izeze, made an unannounced inspection visit to Sector A of the Ughelli-Asaba dualization road project on Friday. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the pace of the ongoing work and reiterate the government’s commitment to expeditiously completing the project.

Commissioner Izeze, who arrived at the Oleh roundabout axis of the road project, underscored the importance of these regular site visits. Such visits, he emphasized, play a crucial role in ensuring that the contractors responsible for these state projects remain diligent and on schedule.

According to the Works Commissioner, the objective of these routine inspections is twofold. They not only enhance the speed of progress on the projects but also guarantee that the highest standards are maintained, aligning with global best practices and the Bill of Quantities (BOQ).

Comrade Izeze stressed the government’s dedication to finishing the Ughelli-Asaba dualization, citing the high volume of vehicular traffic on the expressway as a compelling reason to expedite the project. He further charged the contractor to adhere to the specified engineering standards detailed in the BOQ.

The Works Commissioner affirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to quality and ensuring that every penny invested in the projects translates into real value for the state.

While commending the ongoing construction work, Comrade Izeze reminded the firm responsible for executing the project on behalf of the state government to accelerate their efforts. He encouraged the company to take full advantage of the upcoming dry season to reach significant milestones and avoid further delays in project delivery.

During the tour, the Commissioner was accompanied by officials from Levant Construction Company, the firm responsible for project execution. He assured that the state government would uphold its end of the contractual agreement.

It is worth noting that earlier this week, Comrade Izeze inspected Sector C of the Asaba-Ughelli dualization, urging the contractor, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), to expedite their work and ensure the timely completion of the project. The state Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, had expressed concerns over the project’s delay, which links multiple communities across the state’s three senatorial districts.

In the company of senior government officials from the Ministry of Works, Comrade Izeze expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being carried out by the construction company, underscoring the state’s commitment to infrastructure development.
