World Press Day: DSTG Applauds Journalists for Proper Reporting of State Activities

Asaba: The Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Mr Charles Aniagwu has disclosed commended journalists in the state for proper reporting of the activities of the government since inception.

The CPS made this commendation during an interview in his office to Mark the World Press Freedom Day on the 3 of May, 2017.
He said that the media in the state had been fair to the present administration in the reporting of its activities and programs, saying that practicing journalists in Delta and beyond had done well.

“Since inception of the present administration the media has been fair in reporting the activities and programs of the state government and practicing Journalists in state and beyond on their efforts in upholding and reporting on the activities of the government in Delta State objectively”

He urged Journalists to shun every form of sensationalism practices, give constructive criticisms and also maintain professionalism in their various areas of fields as practicing Journalists.

The CPS disclosed that the Government will continue to create an enabling platform to promote the role of mass media in the state,
Speaking on the world press freedom day, he said the day is regarded as a day to raise awareness of importance of the press in governance and to also appreciate and celebrate those who had paid supreme sacrifices and values to society in the practice of journalism as a profession, adding that inspite of the freedom of journalists in reporting the programs and activities of government on behalf of the public, the freedom is not an endless thing that should be over emphasized, hence it has limit and restriction by the Law.

According to him, freedom is not to damage the image of individuals and the government, but to ensure that journalism is given a place for proper information dissemination.

“The freedom of expression given to the press is not to marlin or damage the image of governments but to ensure that journalism as the forth arm of government is given the needed enablement in dissemination information as well as relating the activities of government to the people”.

He maintained that Journalism as a profession can be related to activism and this has led to the numerous radicalism approach side of the Job.
