EFFURUN/Nigeria: Youths and women in Ekpan have urged the Delta State Government and Security Agencies to apprehend persons and community leaders believed to be disrupting the peace and security in the community.
This appeal was made during a peaceful protest by the women and youths of the Ekpan community who took their grievances to the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom and also to the Uvwie Local Government Secretariat in Effurun.
The protesters led by Mr. Onajite Awinoron, Mr. Joseph Uwaye, and Victory Nanakporo carried placards with different inscriptions appealing to the State Government and the Ekpan police division to arrest Community Chiefs in Uvwie traditional Council, and one Mr. Steve Akemu for allegedly fuelling crisis in the area.
They expressed displeasure at the alleged silent posture of the Uvwie traditional council while some unscrupulous personalities held the Ekpan community to ransom.
The women led by Mrs. Patricia Osoro-Aruiruye stressed the need for peace in the community, noting that crises always have profound and bad impacts, especially on women and children.
Speaking to the protesters at the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie, Abe the First, The Personal Assistant to the Ovie addressed the protesters and promised to convey their message to the Monarch.
