KOKO/Nigeria: Youths in Koko community have been called upon to shun acts related to ritual killings in their quest for survival.
The call was made during a one-day sensitization workshop organised by stakeholders of Koko community to educate youths in the area on the dangers of engaging in ritual killings.
The chief convener of the workshop Rt. Hon. Jolomi Esiategiwa, while addressing the youths, decrided the rate of incessant ritual killings in the country, which he described as a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.
He noted that the need to sensitize the youths in Koko on the issue became necessary as a lot of cases have been recorded in the country.
“The level at which youths, even teenagers go to become rich these days is very alarming, so many acts of ritual killings have continued to trail the news, and the social media space ”
“It is a task for all to educate our children and wards, starting from the home, and down to the community level on the consequences of engaging in such despicable acts” he said.
Hon. Esiategiwa however emphasized the need for youths to engage in meaningful endeavours that will bring honour to their family by getting educated or learning a skill, adding that ‘hard work pays’.
Comrade Amurun Gbesimi, chairman of Koko community youths who was also on ground to address the youths, urged them to engage in legimate businesses that will bring glory to the community.
He noted that the task is for everyone as it is gradually turning to an epidemic, which if not addressed will be detrimental to the country.
“I am pleased by this initiative put in place by Rt. Hon. Esiategiwa to educate Koko youths on this particular issue that is trending in country presently” he said.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the event charged the youths to be exemplary in whatever they do as they are the future leaders of their communities, the state and country.
Highpoint of the event was the chanting of the slogan, ‘Youths Say No To Ritual’ by the youths to reiterate their stance on the issue.
