Female Journalists Advised to Acquire Extra Skills, as NAWOJ Delta Organises Skill Acquisition for Members
ASABA/Nigeria: Female journalists in the state have been advised to avail themselves of opportunities to acquire skills outside their profession.
The State Chairman, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Delta State Chapter, Comrade Patricia Gbemudu gave the advice while speaking at the skill acquisition session she organised for members, as part of the highlights of the Association’s monthly Congress.
Comrade Gbemudu said the skill acquisition programme was in line with her election campaign promise to empower female journalists to become more resourceful and effective in their homes, adding that it would in turn boost their performance at work.
She decried the rate at which most journalists risked their lives to source information from members of the public and devoted time to building others, without sparing a thought for themselves, and urged female journalists as mothers, wives, and care givers, to learn skills that would add value to their families.
Comrade Gbemudu commended the General Manager Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Asaba, Lady Evelyn Binitie and the management and staff of DBS for their efforts at promoting the activities of NAWOJ, saying that another skill would be taught in the next congress holding in May 2018.
A former Chairman of NAWOJ and Deputy General Manager, News, DBS Asaba, Comrade Mercy Mumeifo emphasized that skill acquisition generally was a key that opened door of fortune, as it provided diverse job opportunities, created a source to generate revenue, and reduced crime rate.
Comrade Mumeifo said the free training on Facial Makeover was commendable, as the knowledge would keep the journalist abreast of trends and increase their marketability in a highly competitive profession.
Some members who participated at the event thanked the Chairman and her Executive for sponsoring the training and choosing a competent resource person, Mrs. Evelyn Emeyazia of the Royal Eve Makeover.
They recalled previous congresses where they received free training on liquid soaps and motivational talk, courtesy of the Patricia Gbemudu administration, adding that it was a sign of good things to come in Delta NAWOJ.
The congress held at the Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Asaba, and was attended by the General Manager of the Station, Lady Evelyn Binitie, who has continued to promote the activities of Delta NAWOJ in the establishment.
