WARRI/Nigeria: Renowned peace and environmental rights advocate, Comrade Chief Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections after obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mulade, a prominent Niger Delta activist and development campaigner from Delta State, expressed confidence in emerging victorious in the election expected to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February 2027.
Speaking shortly after obtaining the nomination form, the Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom described his aspiration as a divine call to serve humanity and advance the cause of peace, unity and development within the constituency.
“I am very happy today for making this possible and I dedicate the form to God Almighty and humanity,” he stated.
The activist also appreciated the national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for what he described as the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development through legislative service.
Mulade specifically acknowledged the support and encouragement of former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, whom he commended for his commitment to democratic growth and inclusive leadership.
The peace advocate said his decision to join the race was informed by the need to provide purposeful representation capable of fostering unity among the diverse ethnic groups within the Warri Federal Constituency.
According to him, his aspiration transcends ethnic considerations and is rooted in the collective interest of the people.
“I am the right man for the job at the moment. I represent peace, unity, development and inclusive people representation devoid of ethnic sentiment and segregation,” Mulade declared.
He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among the major ethnic nationalities in the constituency, particularly the Itsekiri, Ijaw and Urhobo, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation.
Mulade further pledged to work closely with traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders and youth groups to strengthen peacebuilding initiatives and attract meaningful development projects to Warri and adjoining communities.
“I promise to work closely with revered traditional rulers, stakeholders and political leaders of the constituency to ensure sustainable peace that would attract the desired development to the ancient city of Warri and environs through inclusive advocacy, constructive engagement and dialogue for progress,” he said.
Widely known for his advocacy on environmental justice, peacebuilding and community development in the Niger Delta region, Mulade has over the years remained vocal on issues affecting oil-producing communities, youth empowerment and inter-ethnic harmony.
Political observers believe his entrance into the House of Representatives race is likely to reshape political conversations within the Warri Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
