Chief Fidelis Enumah Ishie, Labour Party flag Bearer
The chairmanship aspirant of the Labour Party, one of the five parties in Ukwuani Local Government Area, Chief Fidelis Enumah Ishie, has said that he is determine to bring changes to Ukwuani LGA if voted into office as the Executive Chairman come October 25, 2014.
Chief Ishie in an interview with Ndokwa Reporters, said with his experience as a retiree of Shell Petroleum Development Commission (SPDC), he is prepared to lead Ukwuani to a new beginning of economic and social development where rule of law and security will be a physical experience, which according to him, had for years not witnessed by the people of the LGA.
The Chairmanship aspirant who called himself a grassroots’ politician said he joined politics immediately he retired from Shell and according to him, “instead of continuing to criticise the wrongs that is been perpetrated by the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he will rather join and try to work towards the correction of such wrongs”. He concluded.
Continuing, chief Ishie said that the people of Ukwuani need total change, because the present structure which exists in the state cannot provide such changes, and since he may not be allowed in the PDP to make the changes required, the only viable place to carry out such changes will be the Labour Party.
He decried the attitude of imposition of leaders and aspirants on the people by the PDP, which according to him is not democracy, because they end up oppressing the people whom they were supposed to protect because they will be playing the scripts of those who imposed them, as he said, such imposition will only leads to more underdevelopment.
Enumerating, his agenda for the people of Ukwuani, he said if made the Executive Chairman, one of his priorities will be to manage the resources of the council to bring the needed infrastructural development of the area.
And to achieve this he will be close to elected councillors in working out an implementable budget that will see to carrying out some developmental projects as directed by the local government acts.
On peace and security, he said his government will pursue this vigorously, as he will involve the police, the local vigilantes and the various clan heads to achieve this, as peace is vital to development of the LGA.
He also pointed out that his government will not play with youth’s development and he will use the methods of networking to empower the youths since the government cannot provide all the needs of the people especially the youths, he we look up to individuals and organisations that we help to provide jobs and training to the youths of Ukwuani.
On roads, the Labour Party flag bearer says that based the limited finance of the council his government will ensure the grading and maintenance of the earth roads and liaise with agencies like the NDDC, DESOPADEC, and the ministry of works to bring development to the council.
Pointing out the many sins of the ruling party, he said one of the worst scenario is the mismanagement of the resources by the PDP led government in the state, especially when the state is the third highest recipients from the national allocation.
He concluded that to make sure the party wins the forthcoming local government election, his party is continuously consulting and they are ready to check mate any rigging or malpractices by any other party, and after 18 months the people should be able to see development or call for explanation, he therefore called on the people to protect their votes and expect changes.
