EFFURUN/Nigeria: The dusk to Dawn curfew imposed by the Delta State government to ensure social distancing principles to checkmate the Covid-19 pandemic has recorded low compliance in Effurun and environs as residents and traders were seen displaying their wares even during the curfew hours.
An observation by our correspondent to ascertain the level of compliance has revealed that even as at 8.00pm on the 3rd of May, commuters and transporters were still visible on major roads in the ever busy Effurun sapele road as well as traders trying to make last minutes sales which contravenes the state governments directive on dusk to dawn curfew.
The state government had issued a directive a week ago for the curfew to be in place from 7.00pm to 7.00am after partially relaxing the lockdown order in the State with effect from Thursday 30th April, making the use of face mask compulsory in public places as part of measures to sustain the containment of the spread of dreaded coronavirus pandemic in the State, but investigation revealed that the non conformity from the law enforcement agencies to enforce the law, were seen as a major cause for the partial compliance as very little or no defaulter has been apprehended or arrested over the directive.
A similar observation on churches on Sunday on the number of members for their services also disclosed that while most of the big churches like Catholics and Winners chapel refused to convey their services because of their large members, some of the smaller ones were seen adhering strictly to the state governments social distancing directive.
A member of Catholic who spoke with our correspondent disclosed that they were already becoming used to worshiping online and on live television, so the directive on Delta is of no effect to them because of their over bloated database.
“We are gradually getting used to the online service because apart from the physical contact with members and the inability to give offerings, every other thing remains the same with live service.”
