Father’s Day (OPINION)

By Norbert Fidelis

Today is another celebration of father’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate all Fathers and Father figures like Uncle , Grandpa and all other paternal bonds. . Just like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day celebrates the influence of men in our society , especially those that have made a mark, by raising their children alone and doing other extraordinary things , both for their family and the society at large .

Father’s play a vital role in  raising children and the society at large . Most father’s rhave championed the course for quality education and good governance,  while others  have led in the fight against domestic violence, , substance abuse , oppression , gender inequality and other forms of social vices .

Again, some NGOs like White Ribbon , which is made up of a group of men and boys , fighting the course of social justice for women , and other “he for she ” advocates, have shown and proved that  men and  Father’s deserve to be celebrated and appreciated .

In the family sector,, we have seen where many Fathers ,single handedly raise their children to become somebody in life  , through shear determination, after their mothers might have abandoned them

Unfortunately, most of these great feat achieved by men, is not well celebrated  or even appreciated,, due to the fact that most people see women as the ones who carried the child for 9 months   and suffered the pain of child labour .

Also , some men  go through  sexual harassment and abuse . However , they don’t bother or deem it necessary to say it out . We have seen cases where women accuse men unjustly of rape and sexual abuse , also some women have vowed their love for a man , yet , they  absconded with his kids and properties. All accross Europe and America, what is now trending  is marriage scam, where a woman will marry a man and divorce him almost immediately, laying claims to his wealth and properties .

As we celebrate another Father’s Day, let us appreciate and celebrate  Father’s, for their achievements and the  impact they have made in our society today . A man is a bread winner who shoulders and carries the responsibilities of his family, he goes through a lot of pain and stress to make sure that his family is well taken care of.. He ensures his children receive quality education and takes good care of his wife . He even extends his generously to his in laws in most cases. A father is a hero. Let us celebrate him.

Happy Father’s Day
