Delta State Approves Upward Review of Major Infrastructure Projects

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has approved an upward review of the contract sums for several key infrastructure projects currently under various stages of completion across the state.

This decision was announced on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, during a briefing on the outcomes of the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, presided over by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba.

Dr. Osuoza explained that the revisions were primarily driven by fluctuations in unit rates for the balance and additional works.

“The State EXCO approved the upward review of the contract sum for the construction of drainage channels from Owa – Alero and environs through Owa – Alizomo and Owa – Ofie to link Iyi Ama stream in Ika North East Local Government Area, due to changes in scope, additional works, and changes in unit rates,” he said.

Further approvals include the upward review of contract sums for the construction of roads in Effurun and Ekpan in Uwvie Local Government Area, necessitated by fluctuations in unit rates and changes in scope requiring additional maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction efforts. Dr. Osuoza highlighted that “We also approved the upward review for the construction of Stadium Road, Ugborodo in Warri South West Local Government Area due to increases in the cost of construction materials and equipment.”

Other approved revisions pertain to the construction of phases I and II of Jeremiah Street, Nwawolo Road/Franca Nkem Okolo Drive/Sir Obiora Obidigwe Street, and a discharge drain to Ngozi Ebora Street in Okpanam, Oshimili South Local Government Area. Additionally, the contract for the dualization of Ughelli/Asaba Road, sector A, and the completion of the Ogwashi-Uku to Asaba segment, along with Sector C 1 from Ossisa to Kwale Junction in Ogwashi-Uku, received similar reviews.

Moreover, the State EXCO has approved the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Oviri Court, Eruiyen, Akugele, Ojedi/Adagbasa Road in Okpe Local Government Area. The council also sanctioned the appointments of three traditional rulers: His Royal Majesty, Obi Charles Ikechukwu Abiagum as the Obi of Ubulubu Kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area; His Royal Majesty, Elder John Arimoro Alika Ibiri as the Okpara-Uku of Idumuesah in Ika North East Local Government Area; and His Royal Majesty, Edward Isama Ofuezuem as the Okpara-Uku of Obikwele in Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

Additionally, Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, noted that the state government managed to save over N6 billion on the Ughelli/Asaba dualization project due to the bargaining power of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He reassured that the administration would maintain high standards and ensure that residents receive value for their investments in these projects.

Also speaking during the post Exco press briefing, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze said the state government was able to save over N6 billion in the Ughelli/Asaba dualisation project due to the bargaining power of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Izeze assured Deltans that the present administration in the state would not compromise standards while ensuring that Deltans got value for their money in project execution.
