“We Hold A Hand to Host Pivotal Event on Mental Health Amid Civil Unrest and Global Health Crises”

ASABA/Nigeria:  We Hold A Hand, a prominent organisation dedicated to raising awareness about mental health in all communities, is set to host a significant event on August 28th, 2024, at Salvis Italian Restaurant in Manchester. The event will focus on the theme of “Trauma in Civil Unrest and Global Health Crisis,” exploring the severe mental health consequences of civil unrest, displacement, and ongoing global health crises like the mpox and measles outbreaks.

Dedicated to fostering well-being and resilience, particularly among individuals facing barriers to mental healthcare, We Hold A Hand sees this upcoming event as a cornerstone of its mission. The organisation aims to shed light on the profound impact that civil unrest and global health crises have on mental health, particularly within marginalized communities.

By providing a platform for these discussions, the event seeks to deepen understanding of the complex interplay between trauma, mental health, and broader societal factors. The organisation hopes to highlight the unique challenges faced by communities disproportionately affected by these crises, examining the cultural and historical contexts that contribute to their vulnerabilities and resilience.

The gathering will feature a diverse panel of mental health professionals, community leaders, and individuals with lived experience who will share their insights on the psychological toll of civil unrest, the isolation it often causes, and paths to healing. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in open discussions and connect with others who share similar experiences. Featured speakers include Kelvin Voen, Founder of We Hold A Hand; Nisaa Ali, Trauma Therapist; Danielle Vassell, Podcast Host & Speaker; Eghosa Izeiyamu, United Nations Delegate; Eli Hassell, Advocate at EVSATE & Interview Host; and Julie Efrance, Author & Radio Host, who will host the event.

“Civil unrest can have a profoundly negative impact on mental health,” said Kelvin Voen, Founder of We Hold A Hand. “The psychological consequences, ranging from anxiety and depression to post-traumatic stress disorder, are substantial. These conversations are essential for addressing our mental well-being. By fostering a community centered on shared experiences and mutual support, we seek to empower individuals to heal, rebuild their lives, and strengthen their communities.”

This event marks the launch of a series of gatherings that We Hold A Hand has organized for the remainder of the year, spanning various cities. Each event will focus on different aspects of mental health and well-being. Through these carefully curated spaces for dialogue and support, We Hold A Hand is dedicated to dismantling stigmas, fostering open conversations, and empowering individuals to access the care they deserve.
