ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government says residents should expect major gains from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent visit to China, including innovations in waste management, rural infrastructure partnerships, and fresh investment opportunities.

Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the governor’s invitation to the 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) in Macau was a result of Delta’s reputation for delivering quality infrastructure and prompt contractor payments.

“We were invited because of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to excellence and his unprecedented approach to project mobilization and prompt payments. These policies have gained international recognition and positioned Delta as a model for quality infrastructure,” Aniagwu said, flanked by Chief Press Secretary Sir Festus Ahon and Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment Mr. Olisa Ifeajika.

Aniagwu revealed that key engagements during the trip focused on modern waste-to-energy technology and rural development. “We identified companies that convert waste to energy, offering solutions to Nigeria’s waste challenges and potential for powering homes,” he said, adding that the state would pursue these partnerships to attract vital investments.

He noted that the governor’s insistence on world-class standards impressed global players, including China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), which commended Delta’s infrastructure drive. “This recognition reinforces confidence in Delta’s transparent, results-driven governance,” Aniagwu added.

The commissioner reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance for underperformance in public projects. “Several non-performing contracts have been revoked and re-awarded to ensure timely delivery. Contractors must meet standards or face termination, no matter their influence,” he warned.

Aniagwu also announced intensified action to recover illegally occupied government lands across the state. “Encroachment on critical sites like the airport endangers operations. All illegal structures, including shanties on government land, will be removed, and future violators will face prosecution,” he said.

The government advised citizens to verify property status before acquiring land, warning that trespassers on government-owned plots risk eviction without compensation.
