Delta Makes History as State Fills Quota in Nigerian Army Recruitment for First Time

Nigerian Army’s 89th Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) exercise in Delta

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State has recorded a major milestone in national service enlistment, becoming the first time in its history to completely fill its quota allocation in the Nigerian Army’s 89th Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) exercise.

The Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, disclosed the achievement on Friday in Asaba, noting that the feat marks a new chapter in the state’s commitment to youth enlistment in military and paramilitary services.

According to him, 200 successful candidates from the state were selected from across the 25 local government areas during the screening exercise held at the Cenotaph Complex in Asaba. Of this number, 100 recruits departed for the Nigerian Army Training Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Friday, while the remaining 100 are scheduled to head to the Osogbo training facility in Osun State next week under the supervision of Army Recruitment Officer, Lt. Col. Daniel Appah.

Oghenesivbe attributed the success to the deliberate policy direction of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who he said was determined to ensure Delta State’s full representation in national recruitment exercises. He commended the governor for constituting the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services and for mandating the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, to oversee its operations.

“This is a landmark achievement for the Oborevwori administration. For the first time, Delta State has filled her quota in the Nigerian Army RRI recruitment. It is a clear indication of the governor’s proactive leadership and the collaborative efforts of relevant stakeholders,” Oghenesivbe stated.

He extended appreciation to the Chief of Army Administration, Major General Lawrence Agha Fejokwu, for visiting the screening venue in Asaba, saying the visit boosted the morale of candidates and instilled confidence in the transparency of the exercise.

The Bureau Chief also praised the Recruitment Officer, Lt. Col. Appah, for ensuring that merit guided the selection process, and commended Dr. Emu for providing strong leadership and oversight to the Awareness Committee.

Oghenesivbe further acknowledged the contributions of the committee chairman, HC ThankGod; the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Political and Security Services, Mr. Chuks Aguoye; and the Bureau for Communications and Orientation for their roles in the historic achievement.

“As a committee, we are committed to sustaining this success and ensuring Delta State continues to meet and exceed its enlistment targets in future military and paramilitary recruitment exercises,” he assured.
