ASABA/Nigeria: In a sweeping crackdown on criminal elements across Delta State, operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of the notorious Eiye confraternity and recovered a Beretta pistol, live ammunition, and a stolen Lexus EX 330 Jeep.
The coordinated operations, carried out by the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) under the leadership of ASP Julius Robinson, unfolded between June 29 and 30, 2025, in Sapele and Ebrumede.
According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Thursday, the arrests followed credible intelligence that led officers to Yoruba Street in Sapele, where 31-year-old Rasheed Atanda, a native of Irinle in Kwara State, was apprehended.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects: 36-year-old Charles Oyowe from Obeda, Warri North; 49-year-old Rewane Ogbitse from Jakpa, Warri South; and 44-year-old Shedrack Oloko from Ethiope East. A Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition was recovered from Oyowe.
“All the suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity,” the statement noted. The four suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate but related operation on June 30, the CP-SAT team recovered a Lexus 330 Jeep that had been reported stolen during a violent armed robbery incident.
Police said the robbery occurred in the early hours of the day when a gang of armed men stormed a residence and carted away luxury items including jewelry, mobile phones, and the Lexus vehicle, registered RBC 656 CN.
Swift deployment of intelligence assets led to the recovery of the vehicle at 6:35 a.m. along UTI Road off DSC Expressway in Ebrumede, though the suspects managed to flee the scene before officers arrived.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their prompt and professional response. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to continue sharing timely and credible information with security agencies.
“This success proves the value of actionable intelligence and community partnership in fighting crime. Together, we can make Delta State safer for everyone,” CP Olufemi said.
The Command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects linked to the armed robbery, while maintaining heightened surveillance in hotspot areas across the state.
