ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko has called for equitable representation in Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing that fairness and inclusivity are critical to building national unity and public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
The Delta North Senator made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Police Service Commission (PSC) Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. He was warmly received by the Commission’s Chairman, Hashimu Salihu Argungu (DIG Rtd), and the Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani.
Speaking after the visit, Senator Nwoko emphasized the urgent need for institutional reforms within the security sector to reflect the country’s diversity. “Fair representation in all sectors, especially in security, remains key to building trust and national cohesion,” he said.
He noted that communities across Nigeria must feel “seen, heard, and protected” by the security agencies, if public trust is to be restored and sustained.
The meeting, he explained, centered on how to deepen community engagement and promote inclusive policing that assures all Nigerians of equal protection under the law.
The Police Service Commission, which oversees recruitment, promotions, and disciplinary control within the Nigeria Police Force, has long been at the center of debates around equity and balance in federal appointments.
Senator Nwoko’s advocacy aligns with mounting pressure from citizens and civil society groups for sweeping reforms in Nigeria’s security institutions to address long-standing imbalances and foster a more representative policing framework.
