Delta North Senator Condemns Hoax Kidnap

Senator Ned Nwoko, Senator Representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly

ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has condemned a staged kidnapping incident in Aniocha North, describing it as a reckless and criminal act that undermines public trust and the efforts of security agencies.

The incident involved a young man who faked his abduction and released a viral video from a forest location, creating the impression of a hostage situation. According to Senator Nwoko, the alarming footage, which showed the individual bound and surrounded by trees, initially caused panic within his family and the wider community.

In a statement, the lawmaker explained that he had received a distress call from the young man’s parent and immediately mobilized police operatives and local vigilantes for a rescue mission. However, subsequent investigations revealed that the so-called victim had orchestrated the entire drama for motives yet to be made public.

“Staged kidnappings traumatize families, waste vital security resources, erode public trust, and trivialize the suffering of genuine victims,” Nwoko declared. He stressed that such actions are alien to the values of Delta North and must not be allowed to fester.

The revelation has sparked outrage, with Senator Nwoko urging security agencies to ensure that the culprits face the full weight of the law. “This deceit has no place in our society,” he said, emphasizing the need for deterrence against such criminal behavior.

While security agencies have not disclosed the suspect’s motives, the incident has drawn attention to the growing misuse of social media to stage crimes and spread fear. Community leaders and residents have commended Nwoko’s swift intervention and his call for accountability.

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to peace and security in Delta North, pledging continued support for law enforcement agencies. “I remain committed to safeguarding our communities and ensuring that peace and trust prevail among our people,” he assured.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said he had not yet received an official report on the incident but promised to provide details once available.

The incident has reignited wider concerns about staged crimes in Nigeria, which strain limited security resources and deepen public anxiety at a time when real threats continue to challenge communities.
