ISELE-UKU/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday inaugurated an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area, describing the project as a milestone in bridging the digital divide and equipping youths with 21st-century skills.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, Governor Oborevwori commended the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) for constructing the facility as part of its corporate social responsibility. He added that the state government, through the Ministry of Science and Technology, had equipped the centre with modern ICT tools, furniture, and accessories to make it fully functional.
“With this ICT and CBT centre, our young people no longer need to look far for such facilities. It is not just infrastructure, but a bold step toward bridging the digital divide, empowering our people, and preparing Deltans to excel in the knowledge economy,” Oborevwori said.
The Governor expressed gratitude to Mrs. Diana Okonta, a former NDIC Board Member, for her advocacy in ensuring the project’s take-off, and to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the first phase. He assured that his administration’s MORE Agenda would continue to provide platforms that promote digital literacy, innovation, and job creation.
Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, described the centre as a “gateway to innovation, education, and economic growth,” while the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Odigie, highlighted its potential to train youths in coding, app development, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
Chairman of Aniocha North LGA, Hon. Chinye Bazim, praised the Governor for situating the project in the area, adding that it would be a “game-changer” in youth empowerment and educational advancement.
Also speaking, the President-General of the Onicha-Olona Development Union, Sir Patrick Ejido, said the facility, equipped with 300 workstations, solar power, and modern infrastructure, would serve as a beacon of innovation for the community.
The inauguration was witnessed by government officials, traditional leaders, community representatives, and youths.
