ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has announced plans to host the sixth edition of its flagship communication training programme, the Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop (DELCOM 2025), as part of efforts to sharpen the skills of government media managers, partners, and online news practitioners across the state.
The State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director General of the Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the three-day workshop, slated for October 6 to 8, 2025, at Hotel Benizia, Asaba, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
According to him, the training will focus on strengthening participants’ capacity in strategic communication and media management, ensuring effective projection of the policies and achievements of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Dr. Oghenesivbe disclosed that the workshop is themed “Strategic Communication in the Digital Age: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Digital Tools for Effective Leadership.” He explained that the theme underscores the critical role of modern communication in governance and the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence and digital tools to drive good leadership and development, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
He assured that participants would benefit from a rich blend of interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises designed to build competence in corporate communication and public information dissemination.
“The DELCOM 2025 workshop is designed to equip media appointees and partners with the skills required to effectively project the achievements of the state government and drive development,” Oghenesivbe said.
The Bureau Chief further revealed that the workshop would feature renowned communication scholars and experts as lead trainers. Professor Joyce Ogwezi, Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, will serve as Chief Trainer, taking participants through modules on strategic communication models, message crafting, and deployment for effective leadership and governance.
Also billed to speak is Professor Presley Obukoadata, a Professor of Brand, Strategic and Metacommunication, and Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at Delta State University, Abraka. He is expected to lead sessions on building a strong leadership brand, crafting compelling narratives, managing propaganda, disinformation, and reputational risks.
In addition, Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and an Artificial Intelligence specialist, will anchor sessions on the role of AI in modern communication. His modules will cover AI-driven content creation, digital tools for leadership communication, data analysis, sentiment tracking, and the use of AI-powered insights for decision-making.
Oghenesivbe emphasized that all arrangements for the workshop had been concluded, noting that the programme would serve as a platform for participants to acquire vital skills needed to advance their official responsibilities and strengthen the government’s communication machinery.
