LAGOS/Nigeria: The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has equipped entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to access international markets and grow Nigeria’s non-oil export base.
Senior Trade Officers of NEPC, Nancy Okpa and Olamide Olatunde, disclosed this at the maiden edition of the Lagos Mainland Trade Fair in Ikeja, where they said the initiative was aimed at boosting export readiness among small businesses.
Media personality and Queen of Apomu Kingdom in Osun State, Olori Janet Mba-Afolabi, commended NEPC for promoting non-oil exports, describing the initiative as a bold step toward reducing Nigeria’s dependence on oil and increasing foreign exchange earnings.
“This programme exceeded my expectations. It was incredible to see entrepreneurs coming together to celebrate enterprise and innovation. The energy was amazing, and I look forward to building on this momentum,” Mba-Afolabi said.
The fair also featured a sensitisation session by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), which educated participants on product registration and compliance with global standards. Entrepreneurs were also trained on step-by-step export procedures and the importance of meeting international requirements.
Monalisa Aze, lawyer-turned-entrepreneur and founder of fashion brand Mona Matthews, who curated the event, said the support would help vendors gain confidence in navigating export processes and accessing new markets.
“Through exportation, entrepreneurs can expand their businesses and access the global market. The enthusiasm of the vendors was inspiring, and the event has shown that with determination and hard work, we can create lasting impact,” Aze said.
The fair drew more than 100 entrepreneurs and vendors who showcased their products and services to a large audience. Notable guests included popular gospel singer Lady Evangelist Tope Alabi, who graced the event alongside other dignitaries.
Participants described the fair as a valuable platform for networking and exposure. Enobong Ezekiel, CEO of Coreal8, said the organisers created “a vibrant and supportive atmosphere that allowed us to showcase our services and connect with partners.”
The fair was widely hailed as a success, sparking optimism for greater entrepreneurial growth and stronger participation of Nigerian businesses in the global market.
