ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator representing Delta Central, Ede Dafinone, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned businessman and philanthropist, Olorogun Oscar Eyovbirere Ibru, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the Urhobo nation, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Dafinone said the sudden death of the eldest son of the late business mogul, Olorogun Michael Ibru, at the age of 67, has created a profound void within the illustrious Ibru family and beyond.
“Olorogun Oscar Ibru was more than the eldest son of the late Olorogun Michael Ibru, founder of the Ibru Organisation. He was a worthy torchbearer of that great legacy, who steered the family’s vast interests in shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and philanthropy with uncommon vision,” the Senator stated.
Dafinone recalled that Ibru’s career began at The Guardian newspaper before he rose to leadership positions within the Ibru Organisation, where his diligence, innovation, and commitment to service left enduring marks. He noted that beyond the corporate world, Ibru’s compassion and impact resonated strongly through his philanthropy, particularly youth-focused initiatives such as the Dream Child Foundation and his interventions in relief efforts for displaced persons.
“He was a man of compassion and impact. In him, the Urhobo Nation found a true ambassador, proud of his roots, unafraid to engage the modern world, and always eager to uplift others,” Dafinone added.
The Senator extended condolences on behalf of his family and the people of Delta Central to Ibru’s wife, Chief Wanda Ibru, his children, the Ibru family, and the Urhobo nation. He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
“As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the shining example he leaves behind for generations to emulate. May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest,” he said.
