ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs across Asaba and its environs following coordinated, intelligence-led deployments by operatives of ‘B’ Division Asaba, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS).

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday in Asaba, said the operations resulted in the arrest of armed robbery and cultism suspects as well as a drug peddler, with the recovery of locally made firearms and illicit substances.

According to him, on October 1, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware, led his surveillance team in response to a distress call about a robbery around the BONSAAC axis of Asaba, where a female victim was dispossessed of her valuables at gunpoint. With support from local vigilantes, the team intercepted one suspect, 21-year-old Amara Nwako from Oko, while his accomplice fled into an uncompleted building. A locally made pistol was recovered at the scene, with preliminary findings linking the suspect to the Arobaga secret cult.

In a separate operation on October 2, 2025, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by Commander SP Danyaya Yunusa, working with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG along Asaba routes. The truck, driven by 52-year-old Dennis Uruma from Kogi State, was found with a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs. The driver was arrested, while measurement and counting of the exhibits are ongoing.

Similarly, on October 3, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout near the Basket Market in Asaba. During the operation, three suspects — Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19) — were apprehended. Officers also recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol. The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to trace other members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

SP Bright added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has restated the Command’s zero tolerance for violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and drug trafficking. He urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with the Police to enhance security across the state.

“The Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegal firearms, and disrupting the supply of illicit drugs in collaboration with relevant agencies and community stakeholders,” Bright assured.
