UDU/Nigeria: Hundreds of residents of Udu Local Government Area, Delta State, on Monday benefitted from the Senator Ede Dafinone Free Diabetes Sensitization and Testing Medical Outreach, a health initiative designed to serve communities across the eight local government areas of Delta Central Senatorial District.
The outreach, organized in partnership with the National Health Fellows and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), provided a wide range of free health services including diabetes and blood pressure checks, tuberculosis screening, eye tests, the distribution of reading glasses, and essential medications.
Held at the Orhuwhorhun Primary Health Centre in Udu, the event drew large crowds of residents eager to benefit from the exercise, which many described as life-saving and timely.
Mr. Daniel Odien, Senator Dafinone’s Liaison Officer for Udu LGA, commended the senator’s commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the people. “We are so happy for this medical outreach. We thank Senator Ede Dafinone for sponsoring this programme which has touched many lives today and rekindled their health. God bless our distinguished senator,” he said.
Similarly, Mr. Darlington Ehriejakor, Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President and a ward coordinator for Senator Dafinone, expressed gratitude to the senator and his team for prioritizing community health. “We thank Senator Ede Dafinone and his team for this amazing outreach that has touched the lives of Udu people and beyond. We encourage him to continue this humanitarian work, and we pray for God’s strength to do even more,” Ehriejakor stated.
Arc. Alex Emuobor Oniomughare, Assistant Liaison Officer to the senator, described the exercise as a blessing, particularly for the elderly and low-income residents. “Participants are excited because opportunities like this come rarely. I pray that God empowers Senator Dafinone to make this a yearly event,” he said.
Participants also shared heartfelt testimonies about the impact of the programme. Madam Edirin Ararirhe, one of the beneficiaries, said: “When I heard of this program, I rushed to participate because I didn’t know what was wrong with me. After my check-up, they discovered I had high blood pressure and gave me the necessary care. I pray that God will continue to bless the organisers of this programme.”
Another participant, Mrs. Precious Egbe, appreciated the medical team for their professionalism and compassion. “I thank the organizers for this initiative. Everything went smoothly and orderly. God bless the senator for thinking of the poor who can’t afford hospital bills,” she said.
Many residents noted that the outreach not only provided free treatment but also helped dispel myths surrounding certain health conditions often attributed to spiritual causes. “So many people have died thinking their illness was caused by witchcraft, not knowing it was medical. This programme has opened our eyes,” one beneficiary remarked.
The Senator Ede Dafinone Free Medical Outreach has been widely praised as a vital public health intervention, with participants urging that it be held regularly to sustain its impact on communities across Delta Central.
