ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has described the launch of the Delta State Security Trust Fund as a timely and strategic intervention that will strengthen peace, stability, and good governance across the state.

Reacting to Wednesday’s formal unveiling of the Fund by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Guwor commended the Governor for what he called a “bold and forward-thinking initiative” that demonstrates his administration’s commitment to securing the lives and property of all Deltans.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker assured that the Delta State House of Assembly would provide the necessary legislative framework, oversight, and policy support to ensure transparency, accountability, and the efficient management of the Security Trust Fund.

“The launch of the Security Trust Fund is a testament to the Governor’s dedication to addressing security challenges in our state and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” Guwor said. “This development marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to protect lives, property, and economic investments in Delta State.”

Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, called on corporate organizations, development partners, and well-meaning individuals to support the Fund as part of a shared responsibility to build a safer and more prosperous Delta State.

The Speaker noted that the Fund, which was established by law enacted by the Delta State House of Assembly, is designed to mobilize resources to complement government investment in security infrastructure and operations across the state.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would attract broad-based contributions from private sector partners and individuals, referencing the ₦10 billion donation by the Chairman of Tantita Security Services, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), as a demonstration of public confidence in the Fund.

“As representatives of the people, we understand that security is the bedrock of sustainable development,” Guwor stated. “This Fund will provide the much-needed support to our security agencies, enabling them to operate more effectively and respond swiftly to emerging threats.”

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to policies and programmes that promote the welfare, safety, and prosperity of all Deltans, pledging continued collaboration with the executive arm to deliver results.

“Security is everyone’s business,” the Speaker emphasized. “I encourage stakeholders to collaborate with the government in sustaining this Fund. Together, we can make Delta a model of safety, peace, and development.”

Guwor also lauded Governor Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and for demonstrating genuine commitment to the security and well-being of the people, describing the initiative as one that would stand the test of time and reinforce public confidence in governance.
