ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Tuesday depart for Germany on an official working visit aimed at deepening the state’s partnership with global construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Asaba, describing the trip as a strategic working mission focused on enhancing technical collaboration and securing more favourable project terms for Delta State.
Aniagwu, who will accompany the governor alongside the Technical Assistant to the Governor, said the visit underscores Oborevwori’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and innovation in the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the state.
“The purpose of this visit is to strengthen our ongoing partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency is known for his negotiation skills, and this trip will help us secure better deals and concessions that will benefit the state,” Aniagwu explained.
He clarified that the journey was strictly for official engagements and not for leisure, emphasizing that the governor remains focused on delivering on his MORE Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Citing the administration’s previous international engagement with China, Aniagwu recalled that it led to the successful award of major contracts, including the ₦59 billion Agbor Flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover at Ughelli on the Warri–Patani Expressway.
He further revealed that the forthcoming 2026 Delta State Budget, projected at ₦1.5 trillion, would focus on capital development, social welfare, and infrastructure expansion to consolidate ongoing gains in urban renewal and rural connectivity.
“Following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ministries are currently fine-tuning their submissions ahead of presentation to the State Executive Council,” Aniagwu noted.
The Commissioner also announced that Governor Oborevwori had directed that all upcoming empowerment programmes , set to commence next month, must be transparent, inclusive, and evenly distributed across all 25 local government areas of the state.
He disclosed that the initiatives would be coordinated by key ministries and development agencies to promote sustainable livelihoods and productivity among residents.
Aniagwu added that several groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects worth billions of naira would be performed in the coming weeks, including the much-anticipated Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to sustain its pace of development.
He assured that Governor Oborevwori’s administration would not allow political timelines to slow down governance, adding that contractors have been directed to maintain steady progress on all ongoing projects across the state.
“Governor Oborevwori is focused on results, not distractions,” Aniagwu concluded. “Every engagement, including this visit to Germany, is about bringing tangible value and lasting infrastructure to Delta State.”
