ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational breakthroughs in its sustained campaign against violent crimes, cultism, and other threats to public safety across the state. The command said the latest successes followed a combination of intelligence-led operations, proactive patrols, and strengthened collaboration with local communities.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued from Asaba, stating that the operations led to the arrest of key suspects involved in the abduction and murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, as well as the dismantling of a suspected cult and armed robbery syndicate in Warri.
According to the statement, operatives attached to Agbor Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Buhari, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, in connection with the abduction and killing of Friday Orumgbe, 53, a commercial motorcyclist from Idumu Oza, Agbor. Orumgbe was reported missing on October 7, 2025, after leaving home the previous day with his Lifan motorcycle.
Following intelligence-led investigations ordered by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, operatives traced and arrested Buhari on October 16, 2025, recovering the victim’s Tecno T101 phone from him. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and one Manu Usman (now at large) had lured the victim into a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor, under the guise of being passengers, before attacking him with a hoe, stealing his motorcycle and phone, and leaving him unconscious.
The following day, October 17, police operatives led the suspect to the crime scene where the decomposed remains of the victim were recovered and later identified by family members. The corpse was deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
In another operation, the DPO ‘A’ Division, Warri, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, acting on directives to reinforce visibility policing in volatile areas, deployed operatives to intensify night patrols within the Ubeji community, following reports of renewed cult clashes.
At about 3:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, patrol operatives from ‘B’ Division, Warri, intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with registration number KWL 359 DS (Abuja), parked suspiciously with two occupants, Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26. The police said the duo could not provide a satisfactory explanation for their movement at such an odd hour.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, one battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge. Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpos is a known member of the MAPHITE and Neo-Black Movement (NBM) confraternities. He reportedly confessed that the firearm was provided by one Mr. Shimaye (surname unknown), identified as the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community. Both suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are underway to track down other members of the criminal syndicate and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the DPOs and their operatives for their professionalism and swift action in apprehending the suspects. He reaffirmed the command’s determination to maintain pressure on criminal elements, stressing that the police will sustain intelligence-led operations and strengthen community-based policing to ensure peace and safety across Delta State.
CP Olufemi urged residents to continue to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to help curb crime and criminality in their communities.
