
ASABA/Nigeria: The Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Peace and Security, Hon. (Dr.) Isaac Anwuzia, has reiterated the commitment of the State Legislature to providing robust legislative backing and effective oversight to enhance the operational efficiency of security agencies in Delta State.
Hon. Anwuzia, who represents Aniocha South Constituency, gave the assurance when he led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Asaba, as part of ongoing engagements with security agencies across the state.
He stated that the 8th Delta State House of Assembly has passed several bills and motions aimed at strengthening peace and security architecture in the state, emphasizing that the legislature remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property of all Deltans.
Flanked by Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe and Hon. Festus Utuama, Dr. Anwuzia commended the NSCDC for its steadfast role in maintaining peace, protecting critical infrastructure, and fostering community safety. He urged the Command to adopt more tactical and intelligence-driven approaches in its operations, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and strengthen preventive measures against emerging security threats.
“This visit forms part of the Committee’s constitutional oversight and engagement functions designed to promote institutional collaboration with security agencies,” Anwuzia said. “We commend the Commandant and officers of the NSCDC for their unwavering dedication to internal security and community peace initiatives. The Delta State House of Assembly will continue to enact and review laws that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of all security agencies operating in the state.”
He further assured that the Assembly would work closely with the Corps to address its operational challenges through legislative interventions, capacity development, and improved funding frameworks.
Responding, the Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Chinedu Igbo, expressed appreciation to the Committee for the visit and the sustained partnership between the Command and the Legislature. He briefed the lawmakers on the Corps’ ongoing operations, successes, and constraints, while calling for stronger institutional and stakeholder support to boost the Command’s capacity in securing the state.
“I sincerely appreciate the Committee’s visit and its encouragement,” the Commandant said. “We seek continuous support from the Delta State House of Assembly in our efforts to strengthen internal security and safeguard national assets across the state.”
The visit, which featured an exchange of souvenirs between both parties, underscored the shared commitment of the Legislature and security institutions to sustaining peace, stability, and coordinated security governance in Delta State.
