ABUJA/Nigeria: The Office of Senator Ned Nwoko has clarified recent reports circulating online regarding the status of the Issele-Uku mini stadium, describing them as misleading and inaccurate.
In a statement signed by Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to the Senator, the office confirmed that the project is still under construction and has not yet been completed or officially handed over to the Delta State Sports Commission.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the project is still under construction and has not yet been completed or officially handed over to the Delta State Sports Commission. Some finishing work remains, particularly in the changing rooms and toilet facilities,” the statement read.
Dr. Nwoko further explained that the mini stadium, long abandoned before Senator Nwoko’s intervention, remains the property of the Delta State Government. He noted that the Senator’s team only worked on the portion approved by the Delta State Sports Commission during the course of executing the project.
He also disclosed that youths in Issele-Uku have been granted temporary access to the facility for daily sporting activities, emphasizing that the arrangement was made “purely out of goodwill” to promote community development and youth engagement.
“The gesture is to encourage sports and community spirit among young people while work on the facility continues,” Dr. Nwoko added.
The statement reiterated Senator Nwoko’s commitment to supporting grassroots development through sports and youth empowerment projects, noting that the Issele-Uku mini stadium is one of several community-based initiatives across Delta North Senatorial District designed to promote youth development and social inclusion.
