PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned the Lagos State chapter of the APC for what he described as a “ridiculous, contemptuous and untutored remark” against former Minister of Transportation and founding APC leader, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The Lagos APC, through its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, had dismissed Amaechi’s recent call on Nigerians to mobilize for a political revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. In a statement titled “Rejected Rivers Politician Can’t Lead Revolt Against Tinubu’s Reelection”, the Lagos chapter alleged that Amaechi was “hallucinating,” insisting that “a politician rejected at home cannot lead a national movement.”
Oladejo further stated: “You cannot lead a national movement when your own backyard has padlocked the gate against you.”
Reacting, Chief Eze described the statement as a product of “sheer cowardice and sycophancy,” arguing that Nigeria’s current condition makes Amaechi’s call for mass civic mobilization a national necessity.
He insisted that Amaechi has never been rejected by his people in any credible electoral process, adding that it was President Tinubu and the APC who were rejected by Lagos voters during the 2023 general elections.
“The 2027 elections will not be between Tinubu and any opposition platform,” Eze said. “It will be between impoverished Nigerians, victims of Tinubu’s policies — and the President himself. Nigerians will send him back to Lagos.”
Eze maintained that Amaechi remains one of the few national figures whose integrity, courage and broad appeal are crucial in mobilizing citizens toward rebuilding a country he said is “on a dangerous descent into the abyss.”
He cautioned APC leaders to summon the courage to speak honestly to the President about the hardship ravaging the nation, warning that conditions under Tinubu are “far worse than the Abacha years,” despite the massive oil revenue accrued under his administration.
“Instead of maintaining absurd silence in the face of suffering, APC leaders must not turn themselves into presidential attack dogs paid to smear patriots like Amaechi,” he said.
Eze encouraged Amaechi to remain resolute in raising public consciousness, urging him to intensify efforts toward building a nationwide mass movement committed to rescuing Nigeria.
