UGHELLI/Nigeria: The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly completed Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital in Ughelli North, describing the facility as a “beacon of hope, healing, and humanity” for the people.

The commissioning, held on December 2, 2025, marked a major stride in the local government’s renewed health investment under Chairman Olorogun Jaro Egbo, who said the hospital is part of a deliberate plan to make healthcare accessible, affordable, and reliable across Ughelli North.

In a speech filled with emotion, the First Lady said she was deeply humbled by the council’s decision to name the hospital after her, noting that the gesture affirmed the value of her contributions to the welfare of Deltans. “It gladdens my heart to know that my modest contributions are being recognized and valued. It feels good to be home, home sweet home,” she said

She commended the council chairman and his team for “breaking barriers and creating access to affordable, quality healthcare for our people,” stressing that the project aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s human-centered development agenda. She also praised the governor’s reforms in the state’s health sector, citing the reduction of dialysis fees from ₦75,000 to ₦40,000, the provision of dialysis and CT machines across government hospitals, and the rehabilitation of 150 Primary Healthcare Centres across the 25 LGAs. “God will help the governor to achieve more. He is working, and it is showing,” she added.

Highlighting her philanthropic efforts, Deaconess Oborevwori recalled the ‘You mata Charity Foundation’ medical outreach for children with special needs in Ughelli, where medications, wheelchairs, and assistive devices were provided free of charge. She narrated a moment during the outreach when a mother of triplets received over ₦8.1 million in spontaneous donations, describing it as “a testimony of God’s grace.” She assured that similar programmes will be extended to Delta North and Delta South.

In his remarks, Hon. Jaro Egbo said the new cottage hospital is part of a strategic plan to strengthen the local health system, insisting that “healthcare is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all.” He expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for providing an enabling environment for development, adding that the Renewed Hope For MORE Agenda has laid the foundation for several completed projects, including the hospital. He thanked the First Lady for commissioning the facility, describing her as an embodiment of compassion whose influence continues to inspire the people of Ughelli North. Egbo urged residents to protect the hospital from vandalism, stressing that sustainability depends on community ownership.

Chairman of the occasion and head of the Ughelli North Local Government Advisory Committee, Chief Miller Uloho, commended Governor Oborevwori for his “exceptional leadership,” recalling his decisive intervention in resolving land acquisition disputes in Osubi that once threatened the airport project. He described the governor as “a naturally gifted leader” whose competence earned him a seat on the maiden flight that reopened the Osubi Airport. Uloho praised Jaro Egbo’s performance and urged him to sustain the developmental progress, while appealing to the First Lady to ensure the cottage hospital remains functional and well-maintained.

Executive Secretary of the Ughelli North Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Tega Ighovo, announced that the facility is fully equipped with modern medical equipment, including an ambulance and diagnostic tools, positioning it to serve as a referral centre for primary healthcare facilities across the local government area.
