LAGOS/Nigeria: The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, has commenced the 2025 edition of Operation Eagle Eye to enhance road safety and ensure prompt emergency response during the yuletide travel rush.
The operation, which began on Wednesday, is being carried out in collaboration with the Lagos and Ogun State Sector Commands of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The exercise was formally flagged off at OPIC Junction along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of the busiest corridors during the festive season.
Speaking at the kickoff, the Head of Operations, NEMA Lagos Operations Office, Mohammed Olatunde, said the initiative was designed to promote safety on the highways and reduce the impact of road traffic accidents during the period of increased vehicular movement.
Olatunde explained that NEMA Lagos Operations Office deployed its Medical Intensive Care Unit as well as Search and Rescue extrication equipment to support the FRSC for swift response in the event of crashes or emergencies.
He noted that Operation Eagle Eye forms part of sustained efforts by the agency to safeguard lives and property during festive seasons when traffic volume traditionally spikes.
The joint operation involved officials of NEMA Lagos Operations Office alongside the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, and the Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin.
The team worked to ensure free flow of traffic along the already congested Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, particularly on the outbound lanes from Lagos, where heavy movement of motorists and commuters traveling for the yuletide had resulted in traffic build-up.
Officials of NEMA and the FRSC were seen controlling and monitoring traffic to minimise delays and ensure safer passage for road users as the festive travels peak.
