ABUJA/Nigeria: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for emerging as the 2025 Global Public Relations Association of the Year at the World Public Relations and Communication Awards held in Lisbon, describing the achievement as a landmark recognition of Nigeria’s growing stature in global communications practice.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised NIPR President and Chairman of Council Ike Neliaku and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris for what he called exemplary leadership that led to the Institute’s historic international honour.
The Nigerian body clinched the top global prize after a competitive selection process involving 89 entries from 19 countries, with results announced on February 19, 2026. Tinubu described the victory as a resounding endorsement of the professionalism, vision and dedication of Nigerian public relations practitioners.
He said the recognition reflects ongoing reforms and international engagement initiatives championed by NIPR, as well as supportive policy direction from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation. According to him, the award highlights Nigeria’s capacity to set standards in ethical communication, public trust-building and reputation management on the world stage.
The President expressed confidence that the Institute would continue to promote excellence, innovation and integrity in professional practice, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting institutions that enhance Nigeria’s global image and contribute to national development through effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
Tinubu added that the honour not only celebrates NIPR’s institutional progress but also signals Nigeria’s increasing relevance in shaping international conversations around strategic communication and reputation leadership.
