Mulade Urges Oborevwori to Prioritise Industrialisation to Tackle Unemployment in Delta

WARRI/Nigeria: A peace and environmental rights advocate, Chief (Dr.) Sheriff Mulade, has called on the Delta State Government to urgently adopt large-scale industrialisation as a strategic solution to the growing unemployment crisis and worsening socio-economic conditions in the state.

Mulade made the appeal in a statement issued to journalists in Warri on Wednesday, expressing concern over what he described as the alarming rate of joblessness across the state, particularly among the youth, warning that the situation could pose serious security threats if not addressed urgently.

While commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as remarkable achievements in infrastructure development across major cities in Delta State, the Niger Delta activist stressed that physical infrastructure alone would not adequately resolve the rising challenges of poverty, hunger and unemployment.

According to him, the state government must deliberately refocus its development agenda on policies capable of stimulating industrial growth and expanding employment opportunities for the people.

“The governor has recorded landmark achievements in road construction and other critical infrastructure, and these efforts are commendable. However, the rising level of unemployment is an indication of looming security threats and therefore demands urgent attention. Without industrialisation, the problem of poverty and hunger will continue to worsen,” Mulade stated.

Mulade, who is also the Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state, urged the government to revive moribund industries while creating an enabling environment that would attract both local and foreign investors.

He noted that Delta State’s strategic geographical location, abundant natural resources and large pool of human capital place it in a strong position to emerge as a major industrial hub if the right policies and political will are deployed.

“The government should introduce deliberate and people-centred industrial policies, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and encourage private sector participation. Sustainable job creation can only be achieved through a robust industrial base,” he added.

The renowned environmental rights advocate further maintained that aggressive industrialisation would not only reduce unemployment but also strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue and promote long-term economic stability.
